Evaluation Question 3
I have completed Question 3 on prezi.com. Here is the link - http://prezi.com/jtqdx2m-m_ye/evaluation-question-3/
Evaluation Question 1
These first set of images are off my front cover. The first image is of my title, I chose a retro style font to represent my intended target audience. The font is modern and attractive which will attract the audiences attention. I also chose the name 'passion' for a music magazine as those who read music magazines may say music is their passion. So I thought the title would be suitable. The image underneath is of the font I used for my main sell line. I used the artist name to attract the attention of my audience as it is important to have some idea of what will be featured in the magazine and the name of the artist could be a reason why the magazine is purchased. I used two different fonts and colours to help it stand out. I used a bold white font for the artists first name and a contrasting fancy orange font for the surname. This was done so the name stood out. Using purple and orange on the front cover adds a contrast which makes it more appealing as I found when I did my questionnaire research. The last image for my front cover is on the model to show what pose I put her in. I chose to have it as a mid shot as I learned from the photography PowerPoint this is the most suitable type of image for a front cover. I made sure there was an eye line match will the audience as this will appeal to them, I used a black and white image to contrast with the colours used on the front cover which come from the text and advertisement. The black and white image also allowed me to create a highlight on the neck and face which will make the reader focus there attention of the intended areas.
This second set of images are off my contents page. The first image on the top left is of my contents page title. Which has the same font from my front cover are this will create synergy between each product. I have made the 'contents' title orange to connect it with the colour scheme used on the front cover. I have also added a mini image of the finished front cover on to the contents page to connect them both. The image underneath uses the same font I used for the masthead which is being used here for the heading. Which on in purple to continue to colour scheme and contrast between orange and purple. The same font is also used when the title of the magazine is mentioned. This is again to create synergy as well as for presentation purposes. The last image for my contents page is the images that I used. The largest image is of the model from the front cover, as this is the main sell line for the magazine. As this model is representing the double page spread article therefore has to be featured in the magazine the most. The next two images are of other models that have been used for other sell lines within the magazine. Using another retro font on the image I have displayed what page these articles/story lines will be featured on.
These set of images are off my double page spread, the first image is of the title which is just like the main sell line on the front cover creating synergy between both the front cover and double page spread. The same colour scheme and fonts have been used for layout/presentation purposes. The only difference is the colour of 'Sarah' as the white wouldn't have been seen due to the plain white background. The image below is of the article. I have set in out in the proper structure, in columns of the same width. The article is set out as an interview, the questions being asked are in purple which continues the contrasting colour scheme of purple and orange. I have also place the articles around the image so it blends in better rather than just being a section of text then an image. This makes it look more professional. I also extended the article by bring in a fact file about the model. The last image is of the model. Again using a black and white image of the model to link all three sections of the product and continuing the contrast with the colours. The pose also represents the genre of the magazine.

Evaluation Question 4
The target demographic for my product is 15-20. Aimed mainly at females, however it is could appeal to some males. It will be aimed at a demographic that mainly downloads their music, are into social networking sites and going out with friends. Will tend to enjoy shopping, however many will shop at retro style shops or wear vintage clothing. It will be aimed at females who like unique/quirky style. At least monthly by music magazines, many would have been to a music festival at least once. Most of these girls will be class as todays ‘indie’. My readers will be mainly students therefore going out with friends, having a good time and having new experiences like going to gigs is important. This demographic will enjoy going out for meals with friends for example to Nandos or Frankie and Bennies. Many of them will go to the cinema on a night, for example at empire for cheap tuesdays. Going the city centre to shop will be important, such shops like topshop/topman, river island and urban outfitters will be some of the main shops that the demographic go to. However there will be other shops on the high street such as retro, deep, flip etc. These shops are classed as todays 'indie' clothing stores. Which seems to be many peoples style lately.
This is an image of the sort of audience i am aiming for. Just ordinary average girls who enjoy music.
Evaluation Question 6
Here is an image that I made on Photoshop showing the software/programs I used. These pieces of software have influenced my project heavily. I relied on Photoshop to create my product, by editing and using effects to make my product as realistic as possible. Without Photoshop I couldn't have met the criteria for my product, without Photoshop a series of issues would have been caused in making my product look like a realistic magazine.
- I made sure I took high definition images so when it came to making my magazine I did not have to worry about my images being pixelated when I did further editing. For the magazine to look professional the image needed to be clean cut without the magic wand tool and lasso tool on Photoshop getting my model cut out of the background cleanly would have been impossible and no other software could have give me the precision to do this.
- Without the social networking sites such as Facebook, I wouldn't have been able to organise making my product. Facebook helped with my primary research where I got people to fill out questionnaires to find out what my intended target audience look for in a magazine. It also helped me to organise when I would need my model for the photos shoot. It made contact easier. Using Facebook also meant my questionnaires were not biased as it wasn't just good friends who answered them. Therefore I got a wide range of results.

this is an image on the physical tech that i used. Mac computers allowed me to use the software needed to create my product. Considering mac computers are for media usage it had all the elements needed for making my product.

Photography powerpoint
Some ideas and techniques that are
essential when taking a good photograph:
•Shot
distance
•Use
of tilt
•Shot
composition
•Eye
line
•Tone
•Composition
•Line
•Colour,
including vivid, primary and monochromatic colour
•Texture,
and hints on creating texture
•Patterns
and hints on capturing patterns
Shot
distance types
ELS/LS Good for showing the insignificance of
character or for showing characters as powerless within an overpowering
environment. Also good for establishing location
MLS/MS – good for showing movement or for a balanced tracking of characters and their
environment
MCU/CU – good for portraiture or for
Moving
image interviews
BCU/ECU Good for showing the significance of
character or for showing characters as powerful. Also highly useful drawing
attention to character emotions
Tilt
up shot (Low angle) –
used to convey power or dominance
Tilt
down shot
(high angle)– used to convey vulnerability or weakness of person in shot
and to demonstrate dominance of point of
view
Tone
•Control
of tones, including variations of light and dark, emphasising important parts
of the image, and colour, generally set the ‘mood’ of your photograph.
•Tone
control can be used to emphasise the shapes of the most important elements in
your image.
Photographic/moving image
techniques
Composition
•You
need to think very carefully about how you compose a photograph.
•Many
photographers place their subject in the middle of the photograph, which can
often result in a dull image.
•Use
of off centre composition can create a focal point
Lines
•Lines
are useful for emphasising and leading the viewer towards a main area or
subject.
•They
may also divide up the picture space into segments, which vary in size and
shape. The shape of lines and their general pattern can strongly influence the
mood of the photograph.
•You
can easily control the appearance of lines in your pictures by camera
viewpoint.
Using colour
•Taking
control of the way in which colour is used in your photos is a key way of
improving your images
•Keep
your eyes open for vibrant coloured subjects, but also look for delicate
coloured subjects and ones with muted tones
•Colour
Sells.
Bright, bold colours are used on magazine covers, so choose or plan the shots
that you will take when producing your magazine cover
Red,
yellow and blue can always be relied upon to make an impact, especially
combined with sunlight.
This
image shows the primary colours combined with sunlight, and it has made a very
clear and vibrant image
It
can also work well to use just one or two colours within a picture, such shots
often have an intensity and sense of harmony. These
sunflowers has a sense of harmony and
intensity which is often lacking in more conventional photographs
Textures
•Most of the time when we are taking
photographs we think about the subject, but there is another way of approaching
picture-taking, which involves thinking beyond the subject and looking at it in
terms of textures and patterns.
•Photography is especially effective at
conveying the impression of texture. This is a quality which can be extremely
powerful close-up.
•Direction, height and the quality of
lighting make a big difference to the appearance of textures.
•A
critically sharp image is a vital factor in enhancing the effect of the texture
in a photograph.
•It
is best to use a tripod to eliminate the risk of camera shake
•You
should also make sure that the subject you choose is small enough to provide
enough depth of field for all the important details to rendered sharply
•As
a rule, subjects with bold, deeply indented textured surfaces will be more
effective when lit with a soft light, whereas those with a more subtle texture need less diffused and
more acutely angled light to enhance it.
Patterns
•
Harsh light and shadow can reveal the shape of something so well that it is
unnecessary to actually show the subject itself.
•Patterns
are frequently caused by the effect of shadows.
•Patterns
are also created when a distinctive shape is repeated within the image and it
can have a powerful impact when used as part of a composition
Hints of capturing patterns
•To
exploit fully the shape of a subject you must ensure there is a good tonal or
colour constant between the subject and the background.
•Lighting
can help to create bold shapes when the subject is lit more strongly than its
background, or when it is backlit so that the halo of light defines its
outline.
People
•Photographs
of people and children are the most common form of photography.
•One
of the key things to consider is whether you want the person to pose for the
shot, or whether a ‘candid’ photograph would be better so that your subjects
are unaware of you and your camera.
Construction of my contents page
These image shows the improvements made to my contents page while I constructed it. Things such as grammar were corrected, also fonts and images were changed.
Double page spread article
This is my double page spread article, the first image is my first draft which has improvement written on, the second image is the new and improved article. Which was then extended once I created my double page spread by do a celebrity fact file on my model.
